Referrals to subspecialists may require prior authorization depending on your insurance carrier. Most HMO's require your primary care doctor to evaluate and make the appropriate referral. The process can often be tedious and time consuming. Appointments for many subspecialists can take a while. We strive to make this process as smooth as possible. As of Oct 2009 all medicaid patients are required to get pre authorization for all out patient CT, Ultrasound and MRI scans.
